Evansville, Indiana Car Insurance

Following Fort Wayne and Evansville, Evansville is the third largest city in Indiana with a bit more that 120,000 people and the center of a metropolitan area of some 340,000 people. Situated along the Ohio River, Evansville is sometimes referred to as the River City and won the All-American City Award in 2004. Although it was a major manufacturing center until recently, it was hit hard by when the current recession began with the Toyota plant downsizing significantly and the Whirlpool factory moving to Mexico. Nevertheless, Evansville still has a relatively diversified economy and is likely to recover much faster than many other cities when the current recession ends.

Evansville is both the largest city in southern Indiana and a regional transportation hub, so it can not come as a surprise that it had a well above average number of traffic accidents in 2008. Evansville had 4,467 car accidents that killed eight people and injured another 1,161. 228 of these accidents were related to drinking and driving and 335 were related to speeding. By far the worst intersection for accidents was the intersection of Interstate 64 and US Highway 41, which saw thirty-one accidents, ten more than the next runner up, the intersection of SR66 and Green River Road. At 92.2 percent, safety belt usage in Evansville is about the same as that in Evansville and much better than that of Fort Wayne.

As both a major urban area and a regional transportation hub, it is safe to assume that people living within Evansville and the surrounding metropolitan area will have to pay higher car insurance premiums than people living in less populated areas. The minimum liability requirements in Indiana are $25,000 for bodily injury to one person, $50,000 for bodily injury to more than one person per accident, and $10,000 in property damage liability insurance. These minimum standards are fairly low by national standards and residents of Evansville may be able to get this amount at a very reasonable price.
